George Hittner is the Managing Shareholder of the TheHittnerGroup, a law firm concentrating on matters at the intersection of business, law and politics. Mr. Hittner is a seasoned general counsel and attorney who has marshaled and supervised skilled legal teams across North America. He is also an experienced litigator who has managed hundreds of lawsuits, including dozens that have been favorably resolved by various state supreme courts and U.S. Courts of Appeal.
Hittner attended Wentworth Military Academy for junior high, high school and junior college. He received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University and his law degree and Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas. Mr. Hittner also received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
Before founding TheHittnerGroup, Hittner worked as general counsel and senior vice president for governmental relations at Mesa, Arizona-based American Traffic Solutions Inc. (ATS), the North American market leader in traffic photo enforcement safety equipment. At ATS, Mr. Hittner managed the company’s full spectrum of legal and legislative affairs, including supervising more than 40 external law firms and 75 external consultants and lobbyists across numerous states, territories and Canadian provinces. Mr. Hittner expanded legal doctrines in the area of photo enforcement traffic safety law, successfully defended state and local programs against constitutional challenges and helped defeat challenges to numerous improper municipal elections regarding traffic cameras. His achievements at ATS resulted in Mr. Hittner being named Litigator of the Year in 2013 by the Arizona chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Mr. Hittner also worked as a White House appointee to the U.S. Department of Labor during the George W. Bush Administration. In 2017, he served as a member of the “beachhead” transition team at the United States Department of Transportation for Secretary Elaine Chao and the Trump Administration. Mr. Hittner started his legal career at a major Texas-based law firm in the business litigation and employment law sections. In the political arena, Mr. Hittner served as the statewide campaign manager for the 2002 successful re-election campaign of then-Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice; and worked on then-Governor George W. Bush’s successful 1998 re-election campaign. He also ran for a Houston City Council in 2005 (finishing 2nd out of 7 candidates), and served as an analyst and staff attorney in the Texas Legislature in 2003.
A native Texan, Mr. Hittner is an Eagle Scout who is active on both the local and national levels with the Boy Scouts of America. He is the founder and a member of the board of the Houston Firefighters Foundation, and he was a founding member of the Houston Police Foundation. Mr. Hittner is the Chairman and Founder of the Wentworth Military Academy Museum. He previously served as a Member of the Wentworth Military Academy Board of Visitors and as Vice President of the Wentworth Military Academy Alumni Association. Proud Texans, George and his wife, Erica, and two children, Henry and Hazel, live in Houston. He attended Wentworth Military Academy from 1991-1997 and, in addition to having held every rank in the cadet corps with the exception of two during his time at Wentworth, was Battalion Commander in both his freshman and sophomore years of junior college. George credits his mother, father, and Wentworth for every success (and none of the failures) he’s had in life.
