August 2024 Newsletter

Dear Alumni Family and Friends,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well.

***We have three big requests of each and every one of you***

The first request is that you come and attend the last work weekend of the year August 30 - September 1.

We will be setting up for Homecoming and doing a lot of the prep work that we are normally rushing to do. We need your help getting everything ready for Homecoming 2024.

There will be projects for everyone:

  • Hanging new framed flags and pictures that have been sponsored.
  • Setting up registration and working through a process to make sure registration is easy and smooth.
  • Moving tables and chairs.
  • Hanging company and year banners in the Old Boy Bunker.
  • Helping Annie with completing displays and moving items to help with the flow through the museum easy after people register in the Museum Store at Homecoming.
  • Adding Academy pins, rank, ribbons, etc, to a display we would like to see filled up with everything we used to wear on our uniforms and other memorabilia.

I would also like to see more of the female cadet alumni come to work weekends and help Annie with the female display case. She has got a great start on it but could use some assistance.

The second request is for donations to the museum.

For those of you who are on the Old Boys Facebook page you have seen the unfortunate amount of death and loss that we have had within the last year. This loss has affected some of the sustaining 1880 Society memberships, which affects incoming donations. We have been losing alumni and donors to illness and death, and unfortunately, we are not making any new alumni.

I have asked each one of the board members to make a $1880.00 donation before I asked the museum members, alumni, family, and friends. I believe firmly in leading by example when asking for something.

I am asking each and every one of you to make a donation to the museum. We have 5 donation options on the website, as well as a custom donation button.

To donate, please visit Wentworth Military Academy Museum - Donation Page (wmamuseum.org/donation). We would also be delighted to discuss any questions you may have or arrange a meeting to provide further options for donations such as the museum store or sponsorship opportunities.

Thank you for considering this request. Your support is crucial to the success of the museum and the continued positive impact for future generations.

The third request is that you all attend homecoming October 4-6, 2024.

Homecoming 2024 is right around the corner. Registration should be open soon at WMAMuseum.org

We will be honoring the classes of 2014, 1999, 1974, and Charlie Company Alumni.

The following classes and company we are honoring does not mean we are only focusing on just them, we encourage everyone to attend, all are welcome.

Next year we will be honoring not a company but a group that was very important to Homecoming and Military Balls until the closure of the Academy.

As stated above, we are honoring the 10, 25, 50 year classes, and also will begin honoring individual Companies each year.

The 10-year reunion coin is only 3 years away from being converted to a 10-year reunion museum coin.

Again!! This does not mean only those classes and companies are invited or are being honored at Homecoming this year. We encourage everyone to attend, visit the museum, reconnect with classmates and friends, and see the new sites in LexMO.

We hope to announce a scholarship program at Homecoming this year in partnership with the Missouri Tri Military program to assist future cadets attending MMA.

As always “Achieve The Honorable”!!!
